We strive to be a place where seniors can go for services to help them remain independent and vital as they age.

In the early months of 1974 a small group of Higginsville senior citizens began gathering for lunch in the Presbyterian Church on Fairground Ave. Quickly the group outgrew the church space. From there they moved to Minnie’s Café on Main St.

In November, 1974 the seniors, under the direction of District III Area Agency on Aging, officially formed the Higginsville Senior Center. The group incorporated and purchased the old Junior High school building at 101 West 21st street, for their new home. This building is where the Senior Center still resides.

In 2003 the old Junior High was remodeled, with the help of the community and NAP credits, and dedicated to its new purpose, a Higginsville Community Center. The remodeled facility has a full scale kitchen, a well-equipped fitness room, walking track, basketball court, and a meeting room, open to all members of the community.
